Daizy, Kee and I participated in a FUN agility match this past spring through DOGSMART.ca Not only did we have SO MUCH FUN, but we did a great job working together!!!
Daizy is 9 and we've gone through some courses together, and it shows!
Kee just turned 3 and as it happened; life took a different turn and we had to take things a LOT slower to work on some pretty profound anxiety issues. He still ROCKED in my books, recalling off of saying hello to people on the sidelines, and the line up of other dogs along the perimeter, PLUS he was HAPPY to come back to my side. Finessing the equipment is the easy part. That just comes with repetition. Having your dog CHOOSE to work with you with every ounce of happiness in their souls...THAT"S what it's really all about.
I witnessed some very inappropriate re-directions from owners to their dogs... It just spoils the WHOLE point of working as a TEAM and doing something you both LOVE when a human loses their temper and redirects to their dog.
Their lives are so much shorter than ours and in the end it's all up to us to go back to the drawing board if what we're communicating to our best furry pal, is not cutting it. They rely on us to be benevolent, fun and trustworthy.
